Japan's ethylene production in 2011 decreased 4.7% over the previous year

Sinochem Xinhua News According to a report from Japan’s Kyodo News Agency, the Japan Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association released data on January 19th. In 2011, ethylene production was 6.69 million tons, 4.7% less than the previous year, which was lower than the 688 when the global financial crisis broke out in 2008. Ten thousand tons of production is the lowest output since 1994.

Most of the ethylene produced in Japan is exported to China. In 2011, due to the Chinese tightening monetary policy and European debt crisis, the Chinese market demand gradually decreased in the second half of the year. In addition, the reduction in automobile production caused by the floods in Thailand also affected the demand for ethylene. However, due to the demand for post-disaster reconstruction of the Great East Japan Earthquake, domestic ethylene consumption has been firm.
