Vibrations in SKF imported bearings can be caused by various factors, including changes in the number of loaded rolling elements. When a radial load is applied to an imported bearing, the number of rolling elements that carry the load may slightly change during operation. This leads to a shift in the direction of the load, which can result in unavoidable oscillations. These vibrations can be reduced through axial preloading, which is applied to all rolling elements—except for cylindrical roller bearings.
The waviness of the bearing components also plays a significant role. The inner or outer ring of the imported bearing must fit precisely with the housing or the shaft it's mounted on. If the component is not machined to the required precision, the bearing ring may deform, leading to oscillation during operation. Therefore, it's crucial to ensure that both the housing and the drive shaft are manufactured to the correct specifications.
In some cases, partial damage due to operational issues or equipment failure can occur. A small number of raceways or rolling elements may become damaged, and during operation, this can create specific vibration frequencies as the rolling elements pass over the damaged areas. By analyzing these frequency patterns, it's possible to identify which part of the bearing is affected.
Vibration is a common issue in many applications involving imported bearings. The stiffness of the bearing is typically similar to that of the surrounding structure. To minimize unwanted vibrations, it's essential to choose the right bearing type—including proper preload and clearance—and ensure it is correctly installed and maintained.
There are three main methods to reduce vibration in imported bearings: eliminating the source of excitation, suppressing the resonance between vibrating and resonant components, and adjusting the stiffness of the system to change the natural frequency.
