Solar photovoltaic power generation development prospects

As we move further into the 21st century, solar photovoltaic power is expected to play a central role in global energy consumption. It won’t just replace some traditional energy sources—it will become a core component of the world’s energy supply. According to current estimates, by 2030, renewable energy could make up over 30% of the global energy mix, with solar photovoltaics contributing more than 10% of total electricity generation. By 2040, renewables may exceed 50% of total energy use, and solar power could account for over 20% of electricity. By the end of the century, renewable energy might dominate more than 80% of the energy structure, with solar power surpassing 60%. These projections highlight not only the immense potential of the solar industry but also its growing strategic importance in the global energy landscape.

With rising concerns over fossil fuel depletion and carbon emissions, countries around the world are accelerating their investment in solar energy. The U.S. launched the "Solar America Initiative" aiming to bring down the cost of solar power so it can compete commercially by 2015. Japan set a target of reaching 28 gigawatts of solar capacity by 2020, while the European Photovoltaic Industry Association proposed the "Setfor2020" plan, aiming to make solar energy fully competitive by that year. As nations shift toward low-carbon economies, government support for solar power is growing stronger, reflecting a broader recognition of its long-term value and sustainability.
