From January to May, China's paint industry exports grew better than imports
In 2014, China's paint industry maintained a positive trend in exports, outperforming imports in terms of growth. However, the average price of imported coatings remained significantly higher than that of exported products. Specifically, the unit price of imported paint was $5.7 per kilogram, while the export price stood at $3.6 per kilogram.
In May 2014 alone, the industry exported 17,569.2 tons of paint, marking a 5.4% year-on-year increase. The export value reached $59.31 million, also up by 5.4%. On the import side, the volume dropped to 14,954.8 tons, a decrease of 9.3% compared to the same period last year. The import value fell to $87.35 million, down by 4.5%.
From January to May 2014, the cumulative export volume totaled 75,287.5 tons, an increase of 6.9% from the previous year. The total export value amounted to $277.33 million, rising by 10.6%. The average export price came to $3,595.95 per ton. Meanwhile, the total import volume for the same period was 70,128.8 tons, with a modest 0.4% increase year-on-year. The import value reached $399.4 million, up by 1.1%, and the average import price was $5,695.24 per ton.
Looking at the regional performance, Guangdong Province, Shanghai Municipality, and Jiangsu Province were the top three exporters during the first five months of 2014. Together, they accounted for 69.86% of the nation’s total paint exports. These regions also dominated the import market, contributing 67.13% of the total imports. Shandong, Zhejiang, and Liaoning provinces also showed strong performance, securing the second tier in both export and import rankings.
