In 2014, China's paint industry continued to show strong export performance compared to its import activities. While exports outpaced imports, the average price of imported coatings remained significantly higher than that of exported products. Specifically, the unit price of imported paint was $5.7 per kilogram, whereas the export price stood at $3.6 per kilogram. In May 2014 alone, the industry exported 17,569.2 tons of paint, marking a 5.4% year-on-year increase. The total export value reached $59.31 million, also rising by 5.4%. Meanwhile, imports dropped to 14,954.8 tons, a 9.3% decline from the previous year, with the import value falling to $87.35 million, down 4.5%. Looking at the first five months of 2014, the cumulative export volume reached 75,287.5 tons, up 6.9% year-on-year. Export revenue totaled $277.33 million, an impressive 10.6% increase compared to the same period in 2013. The average export price came to $3,595.95 per ton. On the import side, the total volume was 70,128.8 tons, growing by just 0.4%, while the import value reached $399.4 million, up 1.1% from the prior year. The average import price was $5,695.24 per ton. From January to May 2014, Guangdong Province, Shanghai, and Jiangsu were the top three exporting regions, accounting for 69.86% of the national total. These provinces also dominated the import market, contributing 67.13% of the total imports. Shandong, Zhejiang, and Liaoning followed closely, showing strong performance and securing second place in both export and import rankings.
