With the rapid growth of China's construction industry, commercial concrete mixing stations have become increasingly popular in coastal prefecture-level cities, while smaller and medium-sized units are now being established in county and city areas. Drawing from the experience of Huazhong Construction Machinery technicians in product design, on-site installation, commissioning, and testing, this article analyzes key technical challenges in setting up a mixing plant, aiming to provide valuable insights for professionals in the same field.
1. Determining the Scale of the Mixing Station
Before making an investment decision, it is essential for investors to conduct thorough market research. If the station is intended for internal use by a construction company, the production capacity should be based on the building construction volume and the expected demand for ready-mix concrete. This ensures that the selected equipment meets actual needs without unnecessary overcapacity.
2. Determining the Grade of the Mixing Station
Investors should thoroughly evaluate the quality, service level, and pricing of manufacturers both domestically and internationally. Conducting on-site inspections helps assess the manufacturer’s production capabilities and quality assurance systems. Through defense meetings or bidding processes, investors can select the most suitable equipment supplier. For smaller investments, using fully domestic components with a cost-effective main unit is practical. For larger projects, key components such as Toledo sensors, Weim screw conveyors, dust collectors, and cement silos can be sourced to enhance reliability, longevity, and overall performance, thereby improving economic efficiency.
The electrical control system also plays a critical role in determining the grade of the mixing station, as different manufacturers offer varying levels of control options for customers to choose from.
3. Selecting the Site for the Mixing Station
When choosing a location, it is important to ensure proximity to gravel yards and sand plants, adequate water supply, and a distance from residential areas. Utilizing hillside topography can help place the stockyard at a higher elevation, reducing the height required for the batching machine and minimizing the angle of the loading machine, which saves energy and reduces wear. It is also crucial to avoid underground cables, power lines, or communication lines during installation.
4. Choosing the Aggregate Conveyor Belt System
If the site has ample space, a low-angle (18°) flat belt conveyor is recommended to reduce equipment costs. Alternatively, a lifting hopper system can be used. In cases where space is limited, a high-angle (typically 40°–50°) ribbed belt conveyor can be considered, with some models capable of reaching 90°. However, in wet environments, high-angle ribbed belts may face issues like sand adhesion, leading to more sand falling back under the belt. Therefore, the sand utilization factor must be carefully considered when designing the concrete mix ratio.
5. Selecting the Aggregate Batching Machine (Scale)
A complete commercial concrete mixing plant typically uses one scale for aggregate measurement, or two to four scales if measured separately. To ensure sufficient storage capacity for each aggregate, it is common to design two separate weighing systems. If the project requirements are basic, a two-aggregate batching machine is sufficient. For special projects requiring more precision, three or four aggregates may be used, with some even measuring each material individually. Other scales, such as those for cement, fly ash, powdered admixtures (using a mother-child screw system), water, and liquid admixtures, should also be configured according to specific needs.
6. Testing Equipment
Equipping the station with a sand moisture content detector allows for real-time adjustments based on the moisture level of the sand, ensuring accurate mix proportions. This is often integrated with computerized control systems for better efficiency and consistency.
