Ensuring the safety of glass is crucial in architectural design, especially for large glass structures like curtain walls. The primary goal is to prevent glass from breaking or falling, while also reducing potential light pollution. Here are some effective strategies to enhance glass safety.

To avoid glass cracking, several key factors should be considered:

(1) Selecting an appropriate glass size is essential. Larger glass panels are more prone to breakage due to stress and environmental forces. Referencing standards like JGJ102-96 "Technical Specifications for Glass Curtain Wall Engineering" can help determine the ideal dimensions.

(2) Using reinforced or tempered glass significantly increases resistance to external impacts such as wind, snow, and debris. Tempered glass is 3–5 times stronger than regular annealed glass but has a risk of spontaneous breakage. Heat-strengthened glass offers a good balance—its strength is about half that of tempered glass, yet it is less likely to self-explode.

(3) When using heat-absorbing or heat-reflective glass on sun-facing sides of a curtain wall, it's recommended to treat the original glass. These types of glass are more vulnerable to thermal stress, which can lead to cracking.
