Wheat, wax fertilizer, organic fertilizer

Applying wax fertilizer during the winter period of wheat can significantly enhance crop performance. It helps to make up for the lack of base and seedling fertilizers, strengthen tillering before winter, promote root development, and ensure healthy roots and strong winter survival. Additionally, it helps maintain and stabilize the soil temperature around the wheat roots. As the fertilizer slowly breaks down during winter, the nutrients are gradually absorbed by the roots, building up a substantial reserve that supports vigorous growth in spring. Wax fertilizer is typically rich in organic matter and has warming properties. Common types include farmyard manure, compost, river mud, chicken manure, and other long-lasting organic materials. It's best to apply wax fertilizer between mid-December and early January, as early as possible in the season to maximize its benefits. The application should be adjusted based on the seedling condition. For weak seedlings caused by late sowing, poor soil fertility, or insufficient base fertilizer, it's important to apply enough quick-acting fertilizer. This may include 2000 kg per mu or 20–25 kg of ammonium bicarbonate. After each rain or snowfall, applying 10 kg of urea per mu can also help stimulate tillering. In fields where phosphorus and potassium are deficient, symptoms such as yellowing lower leaves, reddish leaf tips, chlorosis, or necrosis of old leaf tips, along with weak stems, indicate the need for additional nutrients. In such cases, 25 kg of superphosphate, 5–6 kg of potassium chloride, or 100–150 kg of wood ash per mu can be applied. Wood ash not only provides nutrients but also helps absorb heat, offering some protection against frost damage. For fields with good base fertilizer, fertile soil, and early sowing, it's advisable to reduce the amount of wax fertilizer, focusing more on organic sources like river mud, and limiting chemical fertilizers. Measures such as plant suppression can be used to control excessive growth and improve the wintering environment. In strong seedling fields with good base fertilizer and early planting, an appropriate amount of fertilizer can be applied, mainly using organic materials like 1,250 kg of animal manure per mu to supply the necessary nutrients for healthy seedling development. By carefully managing the timing and type of fertilizer, farmers can optimize wheat growth, ensure better winter survival, and set the stage for a productive harvest in the following season.
