Pipeline renovation is a less common project during home remodeling. Gas pipelines must be approved by the local gas management authority before any work begins. On the other hand, main water supply lines, sewage pipes, and heating systems can often be modified by homeowners, provided they follow proper installation procedures. When renovating the water supply system, it's important to pre-bury pipe holes, threading, and brackets according to the design plan. Before connecting the pipes, a trial assembly should be done to ensure everything fits correctly. The connection method typically involves screwing the pipe ends into threaded fittings. To do this properly, wrap the joint with a few layers of PTFE tape (also known as Teflon tape) in the direction of the thread, then apply a thin layer of pipe dope or white lead. After that, press the joint together and screw it in about half a turn. Repeat the same process for the next section, ensuring a tight and secure fit. Any excess paste or debris should be cleaned up promptly to avoid clogging or leaks. The process for heating pipelines is similar. Both water and heating systems require careful attention to detail during installation to ensure long-term performance and safety. Here are some key construction specifications for pipeline renovation: Wall Penetration: Mark the center point on the wall where the pipe will pass through, using a crosshair for accuracy. Use an electric drill to create a clean, straight hole, making sure the centerline aligns with the intended pipe path. This ensures a smooth passage without damaging surrounding structures. Threaded Connections: Proper threading is crucial for a secure and leak-free connection. Use a threading machine to cut threads on the inside of the fitting. Apply even pressure while threading to avoid uneven or chaotic threads. The fitting should have a slight taper to ensure a tight seal when connected. Pipe Installation: Before installing the pipes, make sure the inner walls are clean and free from dirt or debris. Position each joint carefully so that all fixtures and equipment connect properly after installation. If hot and cold water pipes are installed side by side, the hot water line should always be above the cold one. During the renovation, turn off the main water valve to prevent water flow. After installation, test the system for leaks and blockages. Finally, clean the pipes and apply an anti-corrosion coating followed by a layer of silver paint for protection and aesthetics.
