On September 3, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ) issued an official notice regarding a recall by GAC Fiat Auto Co., Ltd. The company has submitted a recall report to AQSIQ, and the affected vehicles will be recalled from September 1, 2013, through October 2011. Specifically, the 2010 model imported vehicles with VIN numbers starting from the 31st are involved. These models include the BRAVO sedan, specifically the Fiat Bravo 198-59H (MT) and 198-54E (MTA) variants.
According to AQSIQ, the recall was initiated due to manufacturing defects. The issue lies in the insufficient tightening torque of the connecting bolts between the steering axle and the steering gear. This defect can lead to abnormal wear on the spline joint between the steering shaft and the steering gear, resulting in improper steering performance and potential deviation while driving straight. In some cases, this could cause a delay in steering response, posing a serious safety risk to drivers.
To address the problem, GAC Fiat Auto will replace the intermediate steering column shaft and the associated bolts free of charge for all affected vehicles. The company will also ensure that the torque applied during installation meets the required specifications.
