On September 3, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ) issued an official notice regarding a recall by GAC Fiat Auto Co., Ltd. The company has submitted a voluntary recall report, which will take effect from September 1, 2013, and is expected to last until October 2011. This recall involves the 2010 model imported Fiat Bravo sedans, specifically the models 198-59H (MT) and 198-54E (MTA). These vehicles were manufactured with a potential defect that could affect their steering performance.
According to the AQSIQ, the issue stems from insufficient tightening torque on the connecting bolts of the steering axle steering gear. This defect can lead to abnormal wear on the spline between the steering shaft and the steering gear, resulting in irregular steering behavior and a tendency for the vehicle to drift when driving straight. In some cases, this may cause a delay in steering response, which could pose a serious safety risk to drivers.
To address this problem, GAC Fiat Auto will replace the affected steering column intermediate shaft and bolts free of charge for all recalled vehicles. The replacement will be carried out following the manufacturer's specified torque standards to ensure proper functionality and safety.
