Japan develops new photovoltaic cell technology

According to the China Trade Relief Information Network on the 8th, a Japanese research institution called KazusaDNA has made significant progress in developing photovoltaic technology that can be installed on farmland without harming crop growth. This breakthrough could revolutionize the way rural areas generate renewable energy while maintaining agricultural productivity.

The technology works by capturing blue-green light with shorter wavelengths for electricity generation, while allowing longer wavelengths—essential for plant growth—to pass through unimpeded. This selective approach ensures that crops receive the necessary sunlight for photosynthesis, even when solar panels are installed above them. The KazusaDNA Institute is now aiming to create thin-film batteries suitable for use in plastic greenhouses within the next three years. These innovations are expected to boost the adoption of solar power in rural communities and support sustainable development.

This advancement not only addresses the growing need for clean energy but also offers a practical solution for integrating solar infrastructure with agriculture. As more countries seek to reduce carbon emissions, such technologies could play a crucial role in shaping the future of rural energy systems. (Reporter: Guo Xiaoping)
